It's official. I am meant to be a baker/general dessert maker. I've recently discovered that while I'm mixing doughs and batters, I am completely content...as long as no one is in my way. I make delicious pies and cookies and dessert bars. I'm still trying to figure out the logistics of cake and bread making, but I'm getting there. I already have someone willing to teach me how to make bread. I'm very grateful for that.
Doing this full time is my dream. I've come up with a way to do it. I don't have a history of sticking to things and I'm constantly changing my mind when it comes to deciding what I want to do when "I grow up". This is different. I know it is. This is one thing I've come back to over the years, but never grasped just how much it means to me. I know there will be no immediate gratification and I am prepared to work hard and keep with it for as long as it takes. I do hope that it will work out sooner rather than later, but I have time.
I apologize in advance to my daughter and boyfriend who want to help me in the kitchen all the time. I'm sorry. I like it when you sit around and keep me company while I'm creating, but as for the actual making of these things, I need to do it myself. It's partly a concentration thing. By the time I've given you jobs to help, I've forgotten what I was supposed to do. That can cause a multitude of problems. The other part is that I just like doing it myself. The most important thing you can do for me is to eat what I make and be honest with me if it sucks.
I have a huge list of recipes that I want to try. Luckily, I'm not short on people who will be my guinea pigs. I'll take more volunteers though. I have yet to poison anyone and most of what I've made so far has been pretty darn good.
For the next year or so, I will be practicing. Don't be surprised if your birthday and Christmas gifts are all baked goods. If you have any suggestions of things I should try, let me know. I like trying new things. Challenge me!
